The Debasement Trade and The Real Economy

Strong demand and weak supply in silver, rare earths and uranium are driving the resource space.

The “debasement trade” — the deliberate weakening of the U.S. dollar — adds to investor support.

Unlike supply-and-demand issues, debasement of fiat money — worldwide, mind you — will drive prices across the entire commodity space.

In specific commodities, a two-year price low is worth a closer look:

Lumber is unique to the asset class. It’s partially tied to timberland, which gives it value in real estate and housing.

But it’s also tied to the real economy.

In addition to construction, smaller trees are grown for paper goods — everything from paper towels, toilet paper and napkins to books, post-consumer plastic straws and packaging.

Timber is a renewable resource, and these price corrections give timberland time to renew higher-value trees.

Timberland companies, usually structured as real estate investment trusts (REITs), have consolidated. Only a few pure plays remain.

In today’s Pro, Andrew sorts through the chaff of one such opportunity. Operations fund a hefty dividend. You’ll get paid to wait for a recovery in the market price for timber… and get paid while debasement wrecks the purchasing power of the U.S. dollar.

Side note: for over 100 years, since 1912, our family has maintained a cabin on a lake east of Moosehead Lake in Maine. The land was rolled up into an equity deal managed by today’s Pro recommendation. We’ll be taking a closer look at the land itself on a trip next week.

P.S. Last week, we pulled off a double-header for Grey Swan Investment Fraternity members.

First, we hosted an event with our friends from Prime Corporate Services.

Are your trading accounts set and taxes organized before the end of 2026?

Nick showed us how to legally minimize your taxes with smart, strategic planning — including using your membership in the Grey Swan Investment Fraternity as a tax-deductible expense against your investment gains.

Next, we met up with Adam O’Dell of Money & Markets. We covered Adam’s system-based trading strategy, the opportunities he sees now, and the latest on where we’re at in the tech trade – including a shift toward the push for data centers in space. The replay is up on site now here.
